Films & Politics #6 – Debate on nature-positive finance and biodiversity, screening of Wilding

Films & Politics #6

Making Nature positive finance happen

September 22, 2025 7:00 PM

La Tricoterie

Brussels

Event Description

‍

Nature is priceless – yet it’s still underfunded. Join us to explore how public, private, and philanthropic actors can collaborate to close the biodiversity finance gap. We round off the evening with a screening of Wilding, a hopeful story of rewilding and regeneration.
‍

What’s in it for you?

Whereas the topic of ‘climate finance’ is relatively mature, the same cannot be said of ‘biodiversity finance’: even though there is quite a large array of existing financial instruments, a wide gap between supply and demand of biodiversity investment remains.

‍

You’ll leave this event with fresh insights on:

‍

  • the different financial instruments (impact investment, green bonds, payments for ecosystem services, biodiversity credits
) that exist to finance biodiversity and how a mix of philanthropic, public and private capital could help leverage scarce public resources.
  • ongoing policy initiatives (at international, European and Belgian level) translating target 19 of the Global Biodiversity Framework into concrete initiatives
  • how private investors and financial institutions integrate biodiversity into investment decision-making

Evening Agenda:

‍

  • 6:30 PM – Doors open
  • 7:00 PM – Panel discussion: Making Nature positive Finance happen ; we have invited policy makers, private investors, financial institutions and non-profit to exchange and reflect on the role of each actor, what they would expect of one another and how dialogue and collaboration could close the biodiversity finance gap.
  • 8:30 PM – Film screening: Wilding (75') : Discover the story of a young couple that bets on nature for the future of their four-hundred-year-old but failing Knepp estate and turns it into a profitable site of wildlife abundance.
  • 9:45 PM – A drink together
  • 10:30 PM – End
